Nokia donation to help orangutans

JAKARTA: A donation to the Indonesian Orangutan Foundation on Friday marked the official launch of cellular phone giant Nokia's new conservation program.

Nokia general manager Hasan Aula handed over a donation of Rp 100 million (US$11,000) to foundation director Togu Simorangkir.

Under the company's conservation program, called Nokia Connects with Nature, schoolchildren in Central Kalimantan will be encouraged to help conserve the endangered primate.

Togu said the habitat of the orangutan was threatened by land clearing and illegal logging. -- JP
