Noel Ebenezer's Lawyer on House Arrest Application: Already Processed

The lawyer for the defendant in the alleged extortion and gratuity case, who is also the former Deputy Minister of Manpower of the Republic of Indonesia, Immanuel Ebenezer alias Noel, San Salvator, revealed efforts to change his client’s type of detention to house arrest are currently in process.

“Yes, it’s in process. What we’re striving for is access to equal before the law, we’re pursuing that. Regarding the authority exercised by the KPK with their considerations, we with our case are doing it with our considerations. Whether it’s granted or not, we’ll see the policy and authority later,” said San Salvator at the Central Jakarta Corruption Court, Monday (3/30).

“The application is in process. In process. It’s already been submitted, yes,” he added.

Furthermore, Salvator admitted whether the application would be accepted or not by the KPK could be seen on this Monday.

“Well, we’ll see the process today whether it directly goes to the KPK, yes,” he said.

Previously, another lawyer for Noel Ebenezer, Aziz Yanuar, revealed the reason his client wants to apply for a change in the type of detention to house arrest is to see the consistency of law enforcement from the law enforcement apparatus.

Aziz wants to know if there is justice in the process of following up on the KPK’s decision which once changed the detention status of the suspect in the alleged Hajj quota corruption case, who is also the former Minister of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, from prison detention to house arrest.

On 17 March 2026, Yaqut’s family submitted a request to change his detention status to house arrest. The request was granted, so Yaqut—who is also the brother of the General Chairman of PBNU Yahya Cholil Staquf—has been undergoing house arrest since 19 March 2026.

However, the KPK re-evaluated that status and on 23 March 2026 announced the process of changing Yaqut’s detention back to prison. A day later, on 24 March 2026, Yaqut was officially detained again in the KPK Detention Center or in other words, he was under house arrest during the Eid holiday period.
