Noel Ebenezer's Family Seeks Transfer to House Arrest, KPK: Authority Lies with the Judge
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has responded to the efforts of the family of former Deputy Minister of Manpower (Wamenaker) Immanuel Ebenezer, alias Noel, who have submitted a request to transfer his detention to house arrest.
KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated that the transfer of Noel’s detention is under the authority of the trial panel because Noel has already become a defendant in the alleged K3 extortion case at the Ministry of Manpower.
Previously, the family of former Deputy Minister of Manpower Immanuel Ebenezer, alias Noel, planned to submit a request to the trial panel for a transfer of detention.
This request was submitted after the KPK transferred the detention of former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas from a detention centre to house arrest.
“We, the legal team, plan to submit it at the family’s request,” said Noel’s legal adviser, Aziz Yanuar, when contacted by Kompas.com on Monday (23/3/2026). Aziz assessed that there was unfairness in the handling of his client’s case.
However, he said, Noel is experiencing issues with blood vessels in his head, requiring medical treatment at a hospital.
“We view that previously there was clear unfairness. Our client was not given the opportunity for inpatient treatment last week based on the trial panel’s decision, which was based on considerations from the KPK,” said Aziz.
The request for Noel’s detention transfer will be submitted after the Eid al-Fitr 1447 H holiday and collective leave period ends.
For information, Yaqut holds the status of suspect in the alleged corruption case of the 2023-2024 hajj quota.
Meanwhile, Noel has the status of defendant in the alleged extortion case for managing K3 certificates and licences.
