Noel Ebenezer Requests Medical Leave, Claims Need for Brain Blood Vessel Surgery

JAKARTA - Former Deputy Minister of Manpower Immanuel Ebenezer, alias Noel, has explained his health condition after submitting a request for permission to receive treatment outside the detention centre (rutan). The request was revealed during the trial for the alleged corruption case related to the management of Occupational Safety and Health (K3) certificates at the Central Jakarta District Court on Monday (6/4/2026). “Yes, there is a problem with the blood vessels in my brain. I went to the hospital yesterday,” Noel said during a break in the proceedings. Based on the examination results, further medical action is required. “It seems that intervention from the doctor is needed soon, surgery,” he explained. Nevertheless, Noel acknowledged that the healthcare services provided while in the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) detention centre have been running well. However, Noel criticised the KPK leadership and investigators, whom he believes often complicate the processes he is undergoing. This was stated by the prosecutor during the first indictment hearing for the corruption extortion case in the management of K3 certificates at the Central Jakarta District Court on Monday (19/1/2026). “That the Defendant Immanuel Ebenezer Gerungan, together with Fahrurozi, Hery Sutanto, Subhan, Gerry Aditya Herwanto Putra, Irvian Bobby Mahendro, Sekarsari Kartika Putri, Anitasari Kusumawati, Supriadi, Miki Mahfud, and Temurila, have forced the applicants for K3 certification and licences to provide money in a total amount of Rp 6,522,360,000 or at least around that amount,” the prosecutor stated. The prosecutor explained that this extortion has been ongoing since 2021. In this case, former Deputy Minister of Manpower Noel and his associates are alleged to have used a modus operandi of increasing the costs of issuing K3 certificates. For their actions, Noel is charged with violating Article 12 letter e in conjunction with Article 18 of the Corruption Eradication Law in conjunction with Article 20 letter c of the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 127 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code.
