Nobel laureate to end exile
LAGOS (AFP): Nigerian Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka will return
to his home country on Wednesday, almost four years after fleeing
into exile, an official of the German airline Lufthansa said.
"Professor Soyinka is scheduled to arrive in Lagos tonight on
the 19:40 (1:40 a.m. Jakarta time) flight from London," the
official said.
Soyinka, a fierce critic of the late dictator General Sani
Abacha, recently met new military leader General Abduhsilami
Abubakar in New York and agreed to return to Nigeria.
He fled in November 1994 after Abacha ordered his arrest,
Thereafter he became the most prominent critic of the Abacha
regime.
