No Wonder They're Still Selling Well: Branded Glasses Here are Priced at IDR 150,000
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Eyeglass vendors in the Senen market area, Central Jakarta, say that their sales remain relatively stable despite a general decline in consumer spending.
As of Wednesday (3/6/2026), shops in the eyeglass retail area of Senen Jaya 1-2 and Senen Market Block III were still quite busy, although not overly crowded.
In this area, eyeglass prices are considered quite affordable because the products sold are replica designs from several well-known eyeglass brands. The materials for the eyeglasses, such as frames and lenses, are mostly sourced from China.
The prices vary, starting from IDR 150,000 for a lens and frame package. This relatively low price is an attraction for people who want to buy eyeglasses.
The vendors say that sales remain stable because this is one of the alternatives for people who want to have eyeglasses at an affordable price, plus attractive designs.
Dina, an eyeglass vendor who spoke to CNBC Indonesia in her shop, said that customers still come frequently. She said that especially on weekends, there are quite a lot of customers.
“Yes, it’s still quite busy, but it’s most crowded on weekends. Last long holiday, it was busy too,” said Dina.
Dina admitted that her sales are still quite stable, even though on certain days it is quite quiet.
“Sales are stable, maybe because the prices are affordable here, only IDR 150,000, you can get lenses plus the frame,” she explained.
“Most of the eyeglasses here are imported from China. For the frames, we actually use standard ones, so the prices can be affordable,” said Dina.
Similarly, Yusuf, another eyeglass vendor, said that conditions are still quite stable and that weekends are usually busier than weekdays.
“It’s still stable, because the people who come here are mostly young, sometimes there are also school children who are curious to come here, considering the prices are affordable,” said Yusuf.
Like Dina, the eyeglasses in Yusuf’s shop also come from China, with replicas of brands such as Adidas, Dior, Tom Ford, Gentle, Puma, and others.
The prices also start from IDR 150,000 for frames and lenses. There are also eyeglasses that use photochromic lenses, which are priced at IDR 200,000.
“The prices are quite affordable here, with IDR 150,000, you can get eyeglasses according to your choice,” Yusuf added.
Like other eyeglass vendors in Senen Market, Yusuf provides eye check services to determine the condition of the eyes, whether they are still normal or have problems.
“Eye checks here are free, so you can find out the condition, and then you can choose the eyeglasses you like,” he explained.
