'No vulgar shows, please'

JAKARTA (JP): Governor Surjadi Soedirdja called on owners of
entertainment centers not to feature vulgar or pornographic shows
during the Islamic fasting month of Ramadhan, which starts on
Jan. 22.

"Use the fasting month as a time to purify our mind. Let's not
do anything which can disrupt the religious atmosphere during the
holy month," he said.

Gambling must also be avoided, he added.

In a related development. Toha Reno, an official at the City
Public Order Office, said that this year's regulations on
entertainment centers will be similar to those of last year.

Entertainment centers must be closed on the two first days of
Ramadhan. No entertainment centers and massage parlors in the
final night of the fasting month or the eve of Idul Fitri and on
the Idul Fitri holidays no entertainment centers will be allowed,
Toha said.

"And they will all be closed during the day," he said.
