No Tolerance: Hotel Sultan Eviction Proceeds Despite Pontjo's Resistance
Hotel Sultan in the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) area of Central Jakarta is set for eviction on Thursday, 18 June 2026, following a ruling by the Central Jakarta District Court regarding the eviction of Block 15, formerly the Hotel Sultan site.
Kharis Sucipto, legal counsel for the Minister of State Secretariat and the Gelora Bung Karno Complex Management Centre (PPKGBK), stated that the eviction order is final and must be respected by all parties. ‘This is a final determination. The Central Jakarta District Court has set 18 June 2026 as the date for the eviction of Block 15 GBK, the former Hotel Sultan site,’ he said on Tuesday, 26 May 2026. ‘Therefore, we urge all parties to respect and support the eviction process to proceed smoothly,’ he emphasised.
Kharis said the Central Jakarta District Court had sent a notice of execution dated 19 May 2026 to PT Indobuildco via registered mail. PT Indobuildco is owned by Pontjo Sutowo, who has been managing Hotel Sultan.
Kharis believes the court’s given timeframe is sufficient for PT Indobuildco to vacate Block 15 GBK voluntarily. ‘With a one-month gap, we hope Indobuildco can voluntarily vacate the site,’ he said. ‘The court also urged occupants or anyone granted rights by Indobuildco to occupy the land and buildings to vacate voluntarily. This is important to prevent new issues during the eviction,’ he added.
He stressed that the eviction schedule marks the end of the long legal process for safeguarding state assets in Block 15 GBK. ‘The legal process for safeguarding state assets has reached its conclusion. The state has pursued various legal avenues, the court has issued a ruling, and now it’s time for execution. Therefore, there are no further legal grounds to delay the return of state assets,’ he said.
PPKGBK Director General Rakhmadi A. Kusumo stated his office respects the eviction schedule decision. He said the return of Block 15 GBK is a crucial moment to ensure state assets are managed professionally, transparently, and benefit the nation.
