No toilet, no marriage
LAMAOLE VILLAGE, East Nusa Tenggara (JP): A tobacco farmer is divorcing her husband because he has failed to build a toilet for the family.
Paulina Bare, 57, consulted the Lamaole chief about her intention to divorce her husband Michael Musi last week. He reluctantly approved the divorce.
She told the chief that Michael's inability to build a toilet had made her life miserable.
For example, when she had diarrhea on Sept. 29, she had race back and forth to the garden to relieve herself, she said.
But her "emergency relief" cruise angered Michael, who found the tobacco field badly polluted.
"When I inspected the garden, I found feces all over the place. Even the tobacco leaves were tainted with it," Michael said, recounting a heated argument with his wife.
He declined to explain why he would not build a toilet but said he was glad his wife was divorcing him.
"I do not mind her proposal because our children are grown up now anyway," he said. (yac/pan)
