No retaliation necessary
No retaliation necessary
From Media Indonesia
We have to be very careful in reacting to the Indonesian flag
burning incident in Australia. It is most probable that the
action was not the final objective of the group. The main
objective could be to create disharmony between Indonesia and
Australia.
Emotional reactions as demonstrated by a group of students in
retaliation of the flag burning and the Indonesian Importers
Association's plan to boycott Australian goods would only serve
to enhance the group's popularity and existence.
The characteristics of the anti-East Timor integration
movement is that the group always uses occasions when Indonesia
is engaged in important events like the APEC conference and the
independence celebration. They merely want to obtain greater
popularity and world sympathy, not more.
