No Random Live Streaming! Strict Rules for dr Tifa's Trial That Visitors and Media Must Obey

The East Jakarta District Court has established a number of terms and conditions for the media and visitors wishing to attend the inaugural trial of dr Tifauzia Tyassuma, known as dr Tifa, in the alleged defamation case related to the controversy over the academic diploma of Indonesia’s 7th President, Joko Widodo (Jokowi). The trial, scheduled for Thursday, 2 July 2026, is expected to draw significant public attention. Consequently, the court is implementing special rules regarding coverage and live broadcasting to ensure the proceedings remain orderly without disrupting the judicial process. Spokesperson for the East Jakarta District Court, Immanuel, stressed that live broadcasting is still permitted, but only within the limits set by the panel of judges. Media outlets are allowed to conduct live coverage, but only from locations determined by the court or other places approved by the panel of judges. Immanuel explained that the authority to determine which media can be inside the courtroom rests entirely with the panel of judges. Additionally, the court will register all journalists covering the trial. “For now, live coverage can be carried out except during evidentiary hearings, as long as it is conducted from the designated locations,” Immanuel stated on Wednesday, 1 July 2026. Unlike journalists, members of the public attending as visitors are strictly prohibited from conducting live broadcasts from inside the courtroom. This ban applies to all visitors seated in the public gallery. They are only permitted to follow the proceedings in an orderly manner without any personal documentation or live streaming using mobile phones. “Visitors seated in the public gallery are not allowed to conduct live coverage. Visitors are only permitted to listen to the proceedings in an orderly fashion,” Immanuel said, reiterating that the prohibition applies solely to live streaming activities conducted from the visitor seats inside the courtroom.
