No Random Live Streaming! Strict Rules for dr Tifa's Trial That Visitors and Media Must Obey

The East Jakarta District Court (PN Jakarta Timur) has established several terms and conditions for both the media and visitors wishing to attend the first hearing of dr Tifauzia Tyassuma, known as dr Tifa, regarding alleged defamation related to the controversy surrounding the diploma of Indonesia’s 7th President, Joko Widodo (Jokowi).

The trial, scheduled for Thursday, 2 July 2026, is expected to draw significant public attention. Consequently, the court has implemented specific rules regarding coverage and live broadcasting to ensure the judicial process remains orderly and undisturbed.

The spokesperson for the East Jakarta District Court, Immanuel, emphasised that live broadcasting is permitted, but only within the limits set by the panel of judges.

Media May Live Stream, But Must Comply with Judicial Permission

The East Jakarta District Court is providing space for media personnel to conduct live coverage. However, the execution of live streaming cannot be done freely.

Media are only permitted to conduct live broadcasts from locations designated by the court or other areas that have received approval from the panel of judges. Immanuel explained that the authority to determine which media outlets may be present inside the courtroom rests entirely with the judges. Furthermore, the court will also register all media personnel covering the proceedings.

“For now, live coverage can be conducted, excluding the evidentiary stage, provided it is done from the provided locations,” said Imlamuel on Wednesday, 1 July 2026.

Visitors Prohibited from Live Streaming

In contrast to the media, members of the public attending as visitors are not permitted to conduct live streaming from within the courtroom.

This prohibition applies to all visitors seated in the courtroom gallery. They are only permitted to follow the proceedings in an orderly manner without conducting personal documentation or live streaming using mobile phones.

“For visitors seated in the visitor area, we do not permit live coverage. Visitors are only permitted to listen to the proceedings in an orderly fashion,” stated Immanuel.

He reaffirmed that the prohibition specifically applies to live streaming activities conducted from the visitor seats inside the courtroom.
