No Problem With Festive Allowance Cuts, Says DKI PJLP Workers: As Long as Purpose is Clear, I Accept
JAKARTA — Several non-permanent contract workers (Penyedia Jasa Lainnya Perorangan/PJLP) employed by the Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov DKI) have stated they do not object to reductions in their Eid festive allowances (Tunjangan Hari Raya/THR) for the Islamic year 1447 Hijriah.
One PJLP worker, Romudin (pseudonym), said that employees could understand allowance deductions if the purpose was explained transparently.
“If the deduction has a clear purpose, such as compulsory basic education, I accept it willingly,” Romudin told Kompas.com on Wednesday (11 March 2026).
Upon calculation, the THR deduction he received amounted to IDR 1.9 million from his total allowance.
“I was shocked when it came through last month,” said Romudin.
He noted that whilst THR deductions had occurred in previous years, the amount was never as substantial.
“In the past there were cuts too, but usually just hundreds of thousands of rupiah,” he continued.
Romudin explained that he typically uses his THR to share with family and relatives during Eid. However, with the substantial deduction, he was forced to change his spending plans.
A similar experience was shared by another worker, Nina (pseudonym). She also said she would not object to THR deductions if the purpose was clearly defined, such as for social programmes.
“I would willingly accept a deduction if there was a clear rule, for example 10 to 20 per cent of salary, if it is intended for underprivileged residents or for sharing purposes,” said Nina.
However, Nina stated that to date there has been no explanation or public information campaign regarding the mechanism of the THR deduction.
She reported that her THR was cut by IDR 1.5 million, and she does not know where these deducted funds will be allocated.
