No Order for Assessment in 7-Year Sentence for Ammar Zoni, Here Are the Judge's Considerations
Muhammad Amar Akbar, alias Ammar Zoni, has been sentenced to seven years in prison in a drug sales case at Salemba Detention Centre. The judge did not order an assessment for Ammar in this matter.
Ammar’s sentencing hearing was held together with five other defendants at the Central Jakarta District Court on Thursday (23/4/2025). The judge opined that assessments are only conducted on defendants with strong suspicions of being drug abusers or users.
“The panel of judges considers that, based on expert Anang Iskandar, assessments must be carried out on abusers, namely on individuals suspected of being users or abusers of narcotics. The panel of judges agrees with the expert’s testimony, namely to conduct assessments on defendants with strong suspicions of being drug abusers or users,” stated the judge.
The judge is convinced that Ammar and his co-defendants are not users or abusers of drugs in this case. Consequently, the judge did not order assessments for Ammar Zoni and the others.
“However, in the present case, the panel of judges has no conviction that the defendants are users or abusers of narcotics for their own purposes, thus the panel of judges does not order assessments to be carried out,” he said.
The five other defendants in this case are Defendant I Asep bin Sarikin, Defendant II Ardian Prasetyo bin Arie Ardih, Defendant III Andi Muallim alias Koh Andi, Defendant IV Ade Candra Maulana bin Mursalih, and Defendant V Muhammad Rivaldi.
The judge stated that Ammar and the others are guilty of violating Article 114 Paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 132 Paragraph (1) of Law Number 35 of 2009 on Narcotics.
