No Open Registration: Ministry of Social Affairs Relies on DTSEN for People's School Programme
The Republic of Indonesia’s Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos) has emphasised that it will not open student registration for the People’s School. This is because the People’s School is not open to all segments of society. Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf stated that the ministry is relying on the National Single Socio-Economic Data (DTSEN) base to recruit prospective students for the People’s School. In this way, this central government programme will be more on target. “We are not opening registration for the People’s School. So, what exists is outreach based on DTSEN for the poorest families,” said the figure familiarly known as Gus Ipul to the Antara news agency in Bandar Lampung, Lampung, on Sunday (26/4/2026). To ensure the People’s School is on target, Kemensos is also conducting outreach in certain locations. The Minister emphasised that this step is taken for assistance so that children engaging in activities not yet in line with their needs can be provided with education through the programme. “In other words, we are also proactive. For example, if we see children on the street who are still of school age but engaging in activities not yet suited to their needs, then they will be assisted and reached out to so they can enter the People’s School,” he explained.
