No Open Houses by Officials

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Up to H+3 of Eid al-Fitr 2026, or Tuesday (24/3/2026), officials in the Red and White Cabinet appear not to be holding open houses. In fact, President Prabowo Subianto has prohibited officials from holding lavish open houses, given that many people are still affected by disasters. “We also need to set an example with open houses or whatever, not too extravagant,” said Prabowo during the Cabinet Meeting at the Palace, Jakarta, on Friday (13/3/2026). Because, in any case, the wheels of the economy must keep turning. “But we shouldn’t completely close all events either. If not, our economy won’t run,” Prabowo added. The Presidential Palace has sent a Circular Letter (SE) to all ministries/institutions (K/L) not to organise gelar griya (open houses) or Halal Bihalal in an excessive manner during Eid al-Fitr 1447 H/2026 AD. State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi said the circular was issued to follow up on Prabowo’s instructions in the plenary cabinet meeting. “Yesterday, in accordance with his guidance (the President’s), we have conveyed a Circular Letter to all ministries and institutions to urge them not to be excessive in organising open houses or Halal Bihalal,” said Prasetyo after leading a coordination meeting at the Ministry of Defence, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday (17/3/2026). Therefore, in line with President Prabowo’s instructions, open house events must be simple. “Because, after all, there are still many of our brothers and sisters who are in not-so-good conditions. So, we urge not to be too excessive when organising open house or halal bihalal activities,” he stated.
