No New Models Yet, Polytron Still Relies on Old Motorcycles

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The national electronics manufacturer, Polytron, is still considering adding new electric motorcycle models in the near future. For the time being, the company will rely on the three models already available in the market, namely the Fox 200, Fox 350, and Fox 500. “This year we might still have those three (models). Perhaps early next year we’ll have a new model,” said Tekno, who was met in Jakarta recently. The decision to introduce a new model cannot be rushed. Polytron needs to consider various aspects, particularly from the investment side and market readiness in Indonesia. “In this situation, if we strategise for a new product, we have to calculate it too. How much investment we need to make. If the market isn’t there yet, the investment won’t pay off,” he said. Although cautious about launching new models, Polytron remains one of the major players in the national electric motorcycle segment. On the other hand, the company is still targeting an increase in sales this year. “This year our target is around 40,000 units. It’s a big increase,” said Tekno. From that number, Polytron is estimated to contribute around 33,000 units, or equivalent to about 60 percent of the national electric motorcycle market share throughout last year.
