No Need to Go to Hospital: Free ADHD Diagnosis at 43 Jakarta Community Health Centres
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Jakarta Health Service (Dinkes DKI) continues to improve healthcare facilities for individuals experiencing the neurodevelopmental disorder Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
Previously, ADHD was known to be difficult to detect because the diagnosis process required many stages. As a result, many cases went unidentified because some people were reluctant to seek professional help.
However, over time, public awareness of this neurodevelopmental disorder has increased.
Nevertheless, specific records of the number of children with ADHD in Jakarta are not yet available. This is because hospital data is still combined under the group of growth and development disorders, one of which is Hyperkinetic Conduct Disorder.
Ani stated that healthcare services for people with ADHD are already available at most hospitals in Jakarta.
This is because several major Regional General Hospitals (RSUD) in Jakarta already have child development clinics served by teams of trained healthcare professionals consisting of doctors and nurses.
In addition, those hospitals are also equipped with facilities and infrastructure to support sensory and motor training services for ADHD patients, particularly children.
Furthermore, there is the Duren Sawit Special Regional Hospital (RSKD) for handling patients, especially mental and psychological health services.
“RSUD Tarakan also lists Child and Adolescent Psychiatry services, while several other RSUDs have general mental health polyclinics as the initial entry point for services,” Ani added.
In addition, the Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) has the JakCare application for initial assistance or teleconsultation for mental health, although it is not a substitute for full ADHD diagnosis.
Currently, such personnel are not only available at major hospitals but also at nearly all Type A and B RSUDs. Even dozens of community health centres in Jakarta have clinical psychologists.
“43 district community health centres have clinical psychologists. Thus, ADHD diagnosis can be established at those facilities,” she continued.
The public who wish to have their mental health checked can directly visit the community health centre according to the available facilities.
