No need to blame each other
No need to blame each other
From Suara Karya
Upon his release after serving 17 years in prison for involvement in the failed Sept. 30, 1965, communist movement, A. Latief, a former field commandant in the murder of Army generals, said he would straighten out the historical record as regards this incident.
An ex-platoon commandant of the presidential guard unit, Bungkus, who was also jailed for complicity in the same movement, said the defunct Indonesian Communist Party (PKI) had never tortured the generals assassinated 38 years ago.
In fact, with the confessions of a former leader of the PKI and a surviving eyewitness held hostage by the PKI, Sukirman, show that the party was the mastermind and the generals were tortured before being slain. Thus, there is no need to set the record straight.
Latief and Bungkus should therefore be aware of their serious offenses and apologize to the nation so that they can join their fellow citizens to develop the country, instead of blaming others or history.
Let us forget the bitter past and avoid finding fault with each other through unnecessary disputes as such arguments will not solve anything and may even arouse a desire for vengeance, which will doom the nation to ruin rather than improvement.
