No nat'l day reception in Bali: Embassy

JAKARTA: The Indian Embassy in Jakarta said it did not move its national day reception to Bali and had never even had a reception for its independence day, which fell on Aug. 15.

"India had two important national days: Aug. 15 and Jan. 26 (Republic Day). We always hold reception on the occasion of our Republic Day in Jakarta only. For Aug. 15, we always have a flag hoisting ceremony at the Ambassador's residence and Consulate General in Medan. We didn't move our national day reception to Bali," the embassy said.

India opened its cultural center, Jawaharlal Nehru Indian Cultural Center, in Bali this year. The function held in Denpasar on Aug. 15 was similar to the functions held in Jakarta and Medan. -- JP
