No More Water Crisis: Semanan Residents Now Enjoy PAM JAYA's Portable Water Treatment Service
Residents of Neighbourhood Units (RT) 03 and 10 in Community Unit (RW) 08, Semanan Subdistrict, West Jakarta, no longer face difficulties in accessing clean water. After previously being constrained by limited supply due to the existing pipeline network not fully meeting the area’s needs, the community can now enjoy water services through the Portable Water Treatment Installation (IPA Portabel) owned by the Drinking Water Company (PAM) JAYA. The facility was inaugurated on Wednesday (29/4/2026) and attended by the Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta, Rano Karno, as a form of support for improving basic services for Jakarta’s residents. The Semanan Portable IPA was introduced as a quick solution to meet the clean water needs of residents in areas not optimally served by the existing network. Before construction, PAM JAYA first conducted a technical study of the area’s conditions. The study results showed that the settlement did not yet have supply from other networks, thus requiring an additional water treatment installation to ensure the sustainable availability of quality water. “What we are doing today stems from the residents’ needs. This portable IPA serves as an adaptive solution to ensure the community continues to have access to decent water, especially in areas not optimally reached by the existing network,” said Arief in a written statement received by Kompas.com on Wednesday. The Semanan Portable IPA utilises two raw water sources, namely Anak Kali Semanan and Waduk Aseni. The facility consists of two portable IPA units with a total capacity of 4 litres per second (l/s). This capacity comes from the relocation of an existing portable IPA unit from Penjaringan at 2 litres per second, plus an additional 2 l/s from a new unit built in 2025–2026. Arief added that the processed water meets quality standards in accordance with Minister of Health Regulation (Permenkes) Number 2 of 2023, making it safe for daily needs. With the available capacity, the Semanan Portable IPA has the potential to serve around 295 house connections in RW 08, particularly RT 03 and RT 10. The presence of this facility is expected to directly impact the improvement of the community’s quality of life. Meanwhile, Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Rano Karno expressed his support for PAM JAYA’s steps. “This initiative is a quick and appropriate solution in addressing the community’s basic needs,” he said. The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government also views the facility as an example of the importance of collaboration in ensuring public services reach all residents equitably. PAM JAYA reaffirms its commitment to continuously delivering adaptive, inclusive service innovations oriented towards community needs.
