No more gifts for officials
SEMARANG, Central Java: Officials of the Central Java
administration have been banned from accepting any gifts or
parcels following a call from the Corruption Eradication
Commission (KPK).
"I think the call from the KPK is very good. It's better for
the officials to comply with it, to prevent problems," Central
Java Governor Mardiyanto said on Friday. "Just do it because it's
for the best of all."
He told officials, who had already received such gifts, to
channel them to orphanage or other institutions in need of
assistance.
The governor's move met with the approval of residents.
"We support the governor's move. It will eliminate the
culture of 'asking for extras' among officials. If necessary, the
ban will not only apply to the Idul Fitri celebration," said
Nurhayati, a resident. -- Antara
