No March pay for civilian guards

TANGERANG: Dozens of civilian guards in Pondok Aren district, Tangerang regency complained that they only received half of the promised Rp 80,000 (US$18) in wages for helping to provide security during the April 5 legislative election.

"We have received our wages for April from the district elections committee (PPK), but not for March," Suryadi, 35, who guarded the polling station in Jurang Mangu Barat village, told The Jakarta Post on Thursday.

Pondok Aren PPK secretary Kunen said that although the guards had been working since March, they were only paid for April.

However, regency General Elections Commission (KPUD) chairman Jamaludin, confirmed that the guards should have received two months wages for the legislative election, and another two month's payment, for the July 5 presidential election and the September runoff.

"We have disbursed the four-month honorarium to the respective election committees," he said. --JP
