No Longer Wants to Be a Minister, Purbaya: I've Just Been Sacked

Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has affirmed that he no longer wishes to be a state official after being removed from the post of Minister of Finance. He even said he intends to spend his time fishing behind his house.

“No way. I’ve only just been sacked, how could I become a minister again,” he said following the handover ceremony at the Finance Ministry office in Central Jakarta on Tuesday (15/9/2026), as reported by detikFinance.

Purbaya rejected suggestions that he might be placed in another ministry or government agency, or be prepared for a ministerial role in a different field. He stressed that he has no interest whatsoever in remaining a state official.

When asked about his plans going forward, such as becoming an economist or Governor of the Indonesia International Financial Centre (PFII) as rumoured, Purbaya also denied this.

“No, I just want to fish behind my house,” he added.

Purbaya said that after stepping down as treasurer of the state, he would return home to fish. There is a pond with plenty of fish at the back of his house.

“After this, I want to go home and fish behind my house,” said Purbaya.

For the record, the inauguration of Suahasil as the new Finance Minister marks the second change of ‘player’ in the post of state treasurer. Purbaya served as Finance Minister for one year after being inaugurated by Prabowo on 8 September 2025, replacing Sri Mulyani.
