No Longer Slum-Like: This Is the Appearance of the New Homes for Residents Along the Senen Railway Tracks

Workers are tidying up beds in one of the temporary housing units (Huntara) on Jalan Kramat Raya, Jakarta, on Thursday (23/4/2026). This housing development is intended for residents along the railway tracks in the Senen area and aligns with recent instructions from President Prabowo Subianto. A total of 342 housing units are being built on 1.6 hectares of land owned by PT Angkasa Pura, involving state-owned construction companies such as PT Hutama Karya and PT PP, with a target completion date of 15 June. According to one of the workers, construction progress has reached 95% and is expected to finish earlier than the initial target. Currently, the construction process only involves final finishing touches, such as furnishing each unit and installing electricity from PLN and water from PDAM. Each housing unit is equipped with facilities including two beds, a fan, and a wardrobe. The housing will also include facilities like kitchens and communal rooms for gathering, which can function as a Musholla. The ratio of these facilities is one to five, meaning every five housing units will have one kitchen and one communal room. Although the exact timing of the relocation remains uncertain, the relocation plan has been positively received by the residents who will be moved. With these new homes, the residents, who previously lived along the railway tracks, will enjoy more decent living conditions.
