No Longer Finance Minister, Purbaya: I Want to Go Fishing

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Finance Minister for the 2025-2026 period Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has said he will take up fishing after no longer serving as the state treasurer in the Red and White Cabinet.

Purbaya has officially carried out the handover of the post with Suahasil Nazara, President Prabowo Subianto’s latest choice for finance minister, who was inaugurated at the State Palace in Jakarta yesterday (14/9/2026).

“I want to go fishing,” Purbaya said upon arriving at the Djuanda I Building at the Finance Ministry’s head office in Jakarta, ahead of the handover ceremony to Suahasil on Tuesday (15/9/2026).

“Fishing for mujair and nila — I have a pond behind my house so I can fish while daydreaming. Why was I sacked? Haha,” Purbaya said firmly.

During the handover ceremony, Purbaya handed over an iPad, following the signing of the transfer of office. The iPad contained his work report from his year as finance minister.

During the process, Suahasil expressed his highest esteem and appreciation for Purbaya. According to him, during Purbaya’s year as state treasurer, he succeeded in creating new ways of working at the Finance Ministry that were highly effective and easily understood by the public.

“Leading the Finance Ministry is certainly a great responsibility that Mr Purbaya fulfilled well over the past year, and on behalf of the entire Finance Ministry family I would like to express my gratitude and respect to Mr Purbaya,” Suahasil said.
