Jakarta - A member of the DPR’s Commission VI from the Golkar faction, Firnando Ganinduto, has stated that there is no reason for market players to raise the prices of basic commodities. This is because Firnando reminded that the government has assured no increase in subsidised fuel prices as of 18 April 2026, with Pertalite remaining at Rp 10,000 per litre and subsidised Solar at Rp 6,800 per litre. Additionally, Pertamax will also see no change and remains at Rp 12,300 per litre. “Because there is no increase in subsidised fuel prices, there should be no reason for market players to raise basic commodity prices,” Firnando said in his statement on Sunday (19/4/2026). Firnando stressed that the increase in non-subsidised fuel prices must not impact the prices of basic necessities. He called on the government to ensure price stability is maintained and to prevent speculation that harms the public. According to him, the rise in non-subsidised fuel prices has the potential to increase household expenditure burdens and suppress purchasing power. This situation could trigger the phenomenon of ‘energy downgrading’, namely a shift in consumption from non-subsidised fuel to subsidised fuel. Firnando assessed that this shift must be anticipated with tighter supervision to ensure subsidies remain on target. “Subsidised fuel must not be enjoyed by affluent groups in society, so strengthening the oversight system for distribution and delivery in the field is necessary,” he said. Firnando encouraged controls on logistics tariffs, including through various incentives, so that distribution costs do not rise and trigger price increases for goods. Furthermore, efforts to stabilise food prices are also a primary concern.
