No Fuso trucks to be recalled here
Tony Hotland, Jakarta
Japanese truck maker Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corp. has
no plans to recall any of its products sold in Indonesia as none
of them is of the type being recalled globally.
"The trucks we're selling are of different types than the ones
being recalled by Mitsubishi. So we don't have any plans to
recall any of our trucks," a senior official of PT Kramayudha
Tiga Berlian Motors, the exclusive dealer for Mitsubishi brands
here, told The Jakarta Post recently.
The official, who asked to remain anonymous, said the recalled
models are FP418, FV415, FV413, and NW213 (Heavy Duty trucks),
while the models sold in Indonesia are FE304, FE334, FE347,
FE349, FE447, FM 517 and FN 527.
Mitsubishi recently recalled almost 200,000 trucks in Japan
after the company identified faulty parts that have caused 21
accidents in Japan.
The company, which is 65 percent owned by automaker
DaimlerChrysler AG, is currently checking on how many of the
recalled models have been exported. A majority of the vehicles
recalled are freight trucks with a flawed part that covers the
clutch.
According to the Kramayudha official, none of the Mitsubishi
Fuso trucks sold in Indonesia have been imported in the
completely built-up (CPO) form. Instead, they were all assembled
in Indonesia using imported and locally produced components.
The locally produced components include brakes, drive shafts,
wheels and differential gears, while imported components include
steel, engine blocks and transmission cases.
Kramayudha stated that Mitsubishi Fuso has a 60 percent market
share in Indonesia's truck sector, with over 36,000 trucks sold
in 2003.
