No free milk for babies

We would like to confirm that PT Nestle Indonesia will not provide any free milk for babies, as indicated in an article published by The Jakarta Post on April 11, 2001 titled Indonesia has 6.8 million malnourished babies on page 2.

For your information. PT Nestle Indonesia, as a milk product manufacturer, complies strictly to the World Health Organization's (WHO) International Code of marketing of breast- milk substitutes that, amongst others, prohibit the distribution of free milk to babies.

In the article, a statement made by PT Nestle Indonesia's director of sales and marketing, Mr. D. Nandkishore, during a media conference on April 10, 2001 at the launching of the Ini Dulu, Baru Itu drink milk campaign was over-quoted as follows: "the campaign would reach four million children by providing free milk for elementary school students, and for babies through the Integrated Community Health Posts (Posyandu).

The Ini Dulu, Baru Itu drink milk campaign is aimed to encourage Indonesian children to drink more milk, and to provide parents with better understanding on the benefits of milk. The free milk will be distributed to school-age children only.
