No firecrackers during Ramadhan

JAKARTA (JP): The capital's security forces are to be vigilant
against the production, distribution and the use of firecrackers
during the fasting month which begins on Jan. 22.

Jakarta's Deputy Governor, Idroes, urged officers to
confiscate all types of firecrackers during raids because the
explosives are banned under a gubernatorial decree dated Dec. 29,
1995. Firecracker buyers are also considered at fault under this
ruling.

Firecrackers are a physical danger to many in addition to the
noise pollution they inflict on the community. (14)
