No fare hikes during holiday

SEMARANG: The Central Java administration has warned bus companies against hiking their fares to capitalize on booming Christmas and New Year's holiday travel.

Head of the Transportation Office Gatot Soedjantoko said that the government will place a three day freeze on the operating license of any bus company that raises its fares, Antara reported.

Repeat offenders will have their licenses rescinded, he added.

The government has also appealed to bus companies to caution their drivers not to drive recklessly and endanger the lives of their passengers, he added. (emb)
