Jakarta’s Provincial Government has reaffirmed its commitment to humane public service by providing free funeral services at 82 Public Cemeteries (TPU) across five administrative cities. The policy aims to relieve the financial burden on grieving families and to eradicate extortion practices in cemetery areas. M. Fajar Sauri, head of the City Parks and Urban Forest Agency (Distamhut), said the facility represents the government’s presence during difficult times for residents. The service covers the entire process, from the retrieval of the body to burial care, at no cost. Residents are entitled to a range of free facilities managed by Individual Private Service Providers (PJLP) under the coordination of Distamhut. To use the service, heirs or the person responsible must prepare the documents. To minimise face-to-face interactions that could invite extortion, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government provides online registration via a digital system. M. Fajar Sauri urged the public not to give tips, gratuities, or any form of inducement to field staff. Any charges outside official procedures are illegal. If extortion is found, residents are asked to report via the JAKI app or the hotline provided.
