No deal on new aid for RI
TOKYO (Dow Jones): A senior Japanese finance ministry official
said yesterday that no deals had been reached yet on either the
Indonesia corporate debt problem or to restart the US$43 billion
aid program between Indonesia and the International Monetary
Fund.
Briefing reporters on a meeting between Prime Minister Ryutaro
Hashimoto and the ministry's vice minister for international
affairs, Eisuke Sakakibara, the official also said that neither
foreign exchange nor the stock market was discussed in the 15-
minute meeting.
"There are various proposals to deal with the Indonesian
corporate debt, but I don't want to prejudice the negotiations by
commenting on any specific ones," the senior official said.
He added that there wasn't any discussion of additional aid
for Indonesia to complement the IMF agreement or for the debt
problem.
