No Crowds or KRL 'Wars' – Tanah Abang Station Feels Relieved This Morning
JAKARTA – The situation at Tanah Abang Station in Central Jakarta on Friday morning (20/3/2026), or H-1 Eid al-Fitr 2026, was observed to be quiet and tending towards empty. Based on observations from Kompas.com since 06.30 WIB, the empty conditions were already visible at the main entrance gate. Prospective passengers entering and exiting the station numbered no more than six people. This situation is vastly different from a typical workday, when the entrance to Tanah Abang Station is crowded with dozens of passengers jostling during the commute hours. Platform 2, serving KRL routes to Bekasi and Cikarang, also appeared quiet. Only around five passengers were waiting for the train’s arrival. That platform was somewhat busier with passengers waiting for the KRL to Rangkasbitung at 06.30 WIB. The majority of them were carrying suitcases and large bags for the homecoming trip. One of them was Agustin (21), who was heading home to Rangkasbitung, Banten. Agustin took the KRL route from Bekasi to Tanah Abang, then transferred to platform 6 to continue the journey to Rangkasbitung. “I’m going home to the village,” said Agustin to Kompas.com. She chose to use the KRL because it was considered faster, with a travel time of around two hours. In addition, the fare was affordable. The KRL fare to Rangkasbitung is Rp 8,000 per person. Thus, Agustin’s total travel cost from Cakung to Rangkasbitung was only around Rp 11,000. “I’m happy to be able to go home, it’s economical, and happy for tomorrow’s Eid. It just so happens I’m following the government’s Lebaran schedule,” said Agustin.
