No Casualties in Basarnas Ship Fire at Muara Baru Dock

The state vessel (KN) SAR Ramawijaya 240, owned by the Mentawai Search and Rescue Office (Basarnas), caught fire in the maintenance or docking area of Nizam Zachman Port, Muara Baru, North Jakarta. The Head of the Jakarta Search and Rescue Office, Desiana Kartika Bahari, confirmed that there were no fatalities in the incident.

“There were no casualties in the fire incident, either among the crew members on watch or the employees of the ship docking company,” Desiana said, as quoted by Antara on Wednesday (22/7/2026).

She explained that the KN SAR Ramawijaya is a 40-metre search and rescue vessel operated by the Mentawai Search and Rescue Office. The vessel was undergoing its annual docking at the shipyard of PT Proskuneo Kadarusman. The fire was reported to have broken out at 18.40 Western Indonesia Time (WIB).

“At the time of the incident, the vessel was in dry dock undergoing the maintenance process,” said Desiana.

To tackle the fire, some 20 fire engines from the Jakarta Fire and Rescue Department (Gultarmat) were deployed to the scene. In addition, the firefighting effort was supported by rescue personnel from the Jakarta SAR Office, from the Thousand Islands SAR Post.

Desiana added that thanks to intensive firefighting efforts by the joint personnel, the flames were brought under control. The firefighting operation has now entered the cooling-down phase to prevent new fire points from emerging.

“The cause of the fire is not yet known and will be handed over to the police for investigation,” Desiana concluded.
