No Car Free Day in Jakarta on 22 March 2026 During Eid al-Fitr Holiday
Jakarta residents should note that the weekly Car Free Day will not operate during the Eid al-Fitr holiday period. The Jakarta Transportation Agency (Dishub DKI Jakarta) announced via social media that the motor vehicle-free day (HBKB) or Car Free Day (CFD), typically held on Sundays, will be cancelled on 22 March 2026 in commemoration of Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah.
According to a joint decision by three ministers on national holidays and joint leave for 2026, the Eid al-Fitr holiday schedule is as follows:
Friday, 20 March 2026: Joint leave for Eid al-Fitr
Saturday, 21 March 2026: Eid al-Fitr
Sunday, 22 March 2026: Eid al-Fitr
Monday, 23 March 2026: Joint leave for Eid al-Fitr
Tuesday, 24 March 2026: Joint leave for Eid al-Fitr
The 2026 Eid holiday period is particularly lengthy as it coincides closely with the Nyepi (Balinese New Year) celebrations. This creates an extended break spanning:
Wednesday, 18 March 2026: Joint leave for Nyepi
Thursday, 19 March 2026: Nyepi holiday
Friday to Tuesday, 20-24 March: Eid al-Fitr holiday period
The Indonesian National Police (Polri) has predicted two distinct peaks in holiday travel departures. According to Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, who briefed officials at a cross-sector meeting on 2 March 2026, the first departure peak is expected on 14-15 March. A second wave will follow on 18-19 March, coinciding with the government’s work-from-anywhere policy implementation period on 16-17 March.
The return journey is similarly expected to occur in two waves. Return traffic is predicted to peak on 24-25 March 2026 and again on 28-29 March 2026. These dual peaks reflect the staggered work-from-anywhere arrangement adopted by the government to manage the flow of holiday traffic more effectively.
