JAKARTA — The Panti Sosial Asuhan Anak Balita Tunas Bangsa, in Cipayung, East Jakarta, has confirmed that no adoption applications have been submitted yet for AR, the baby abandoned by their elder sibling at a nasi uduk cart in Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta.

“Not yet,” said Rida Mufrida, head of the shelter, when asked on Friday (6 March 2026). “Because the baby is still new, and we from the Social Service Department are here to provide care and protection for this infant. So AR still has to have her health improved first.”

Consequently, the shelter is providing Infantrini infant formula to help bolster her health.

The baby had not yet been sun-dried due to the overcast conditions.

“As is known, newborns can sometimes become jaundiced; to prevent or bolster her immune system we provide Infantrini every hour,” she said.

In addition, AR will also receive routine care from the Cipayung District Public Health Centre to monitor her health.

The process of adopting an abandoned child is not straightforward, because it must go through a court process.

“The process of adoption is not as simple as people might imagine. In cases of abandoned children, there must be a court process and a court decision that the child is abandoned/under state care,” she explained.

Earlier reports described a baby wrapped in blue clothing and a blue blanket found inside a black shopping bag at the nasi uduk cart. A witness checked inside the bag and found a baby girl lying on her side, wearing a blue bear-patterned outfit and covered with a baby blanket.

“Then the witness looked into the shopping bag and saw a baby girl, lying on her side, wearing blue bear-patterned clothing and covered with a baby blanket,” said the Pasar Minggu Police Chief, Kompol Anggiat Sinambela, in a statement on Tuesday.

Alongside the baby, the following were found: boxed baby formula, wet wipes, blue gloves, and a piece of paper.

The paper stated that the baby had been given the name AR, born on Monday (2 March 2026).

The letter is believed to have been written by the baby’s elder sibling, initials Z (12). In the letter, Z writes that their mother had died.

“Assalamualaikum, Bapak/Ibu who found my younger sibling, I, Zidan, would like to ask you to care for my little sister/brother, because our mother died while giving birth. Please treat him/her as your own child, because I will not be able to find or visit him/her again, and I do not want his/her future to be like mine. Thank you,” the note reads.
