NKK wins RI ship contract

JAKARTA (JP): NKK Corporation of Japan announced in Tokyo Saturday the signing of a contract for the construction of a 22,500-cubic-meter carrier to transport liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Indonesia.

The company said the vessel was ordered by Mitsui OSK Lines Ltd and Nusantara Shipping Ltd, a joint venture between Nisscho Iwai Corp and PT Humpuss Intermoda Transportasi.

Upon delivery, the carrier will be chartered by state oil firm Pertamina to transport LNG from its gas terminal in Bontang to Japan for Hiroshima Gas Ltd and Nippon Gas Co Ltd.

The two gas firms have contracted to import 200,000 tons of LNG annually from Indonesia for 15 years. (rid)
