Nissan to set up plants
TOKYO (AFP): Japan's Nissan Diesel Motor Co. Ltd., an
affiliate of Nissan Motor Co. Ltd., will produce commercial
vehicles in Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia, starting in 1997,
Jiji Press said Saturday.
The truck and bus manufacturer, owned 40 percent by the
nation's second largest carmaker, aims to increase its market
share in the three countries to as much as 25 percent under the
project, the paper said.
Nissan Diesel plans to produce 6,000 units of five to eight
ton trucks a year by 2000. It is also considering expanding
production to other countries, including the Philippines and
Pakistan.
