Jakarta - The performance of console gaming giant Nintendo continues to deteriorate. The company’s shares reportedly fell by 7.5% on Wednesday (10/6/2026). The poor result stems from the Switch 2 arriving without compelling titles this year. The console was launched in June 2025 with titles such as Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza. However, for 2026, Nintendo did not include names from flagship franchises such as Super Mario. ‘The absence of a mainline 3D Mario for this year’s holiday shopping season is significantly impactful commercially,’ said Jefferies analyst Atul Goyal. ‘The second year entering the holiday season without a franchise title of comparable appeal,’ he added. Previously, Nintendo had announced a price increase for the Switch 2, driven by the global chip crisis and rising prices. The increase will take effect on 1 September, raising the price by US$50 to US$500. This marks the first price change since the console’s launch. ‘This is a response to various changes in market conditions, which are expected to continue over the medium to long term,’ the company stated. ‘We understand that price changes can be challenging for customers and appreciate the continued enthusiasm of our fans for Nintendo’s products and experiences,’ Nintendo added. Nintendo is also seeking to mitigate the impact of the price increase by launching the Switch 2: Choose Your Game Bundle priced at US$500. This package includes a digital code to download one of three Nintendo games: Mario Kart World, Donkey Kong Bananza, and Pokemon Pokopia.
