Ning Ita Instructs Mojokerto City Civil Servants to Cycle Every Friday
The central government is currently promoting energy efficiency through a work-from-home (WFH) policy for civil servants (ASN). To support these energy-saving efforts, the Mojokerto City Government has introduced a local innovation to conserve fuel oil (BBM). “If it’s up to me, the outcome of WFH for ASN is to save BBM by up to 20 per cent, but I have an innovation: every Friday, all ASN of the Mojokerto City Government don’t need to use motor vehicles, but cycle instead,” said Mojokerto Mayor Ika Puspitasari on the first day back to work after the Eid al-Fitr 1447 H holiday, Wednesday, 25 March 2026. In addition to cycling, this movement is accompanied by community work activities as part of strengthening President Prabowo’s Indonesia Asri programme. This programme encourages all government agencies and the public to actively participate in maintaining cleanliness and environmental preservation. According to the mayor, often called Ning Ita, the efficiency spirit that is the goal of the WFH policy does not stop at reducing office workdays, but can also directly reduce motor vehicle use through a joint cycling movement. “When I was in my first term, every Friday we went down to the community by cycling, and we will reactivate this, while integrating it with community work together,” she said. In its implementation, ASN are allowed to wear more flexible clothing to support physical activities in the field. This cycling and community work movement is also expected to strengthen synergy between the government and the community in building Mojokerto City, as well as promote sustainable energy savings and emission reductions.
