Nine years in jail for killer

JAKARTA (JP): The North Jakarta District Court sentenced a 19-
year-old man, found guilty of committing murder, to nine years in
prison yesterday.

Presiding judge Soaloon Siregar stated in his verdict that
Sutrisno, alias Enok, was found guilty of killing Fret Tomson,
alias Walet, on Jan. 1, 1995, by stabbing him in the stomach and
chest.

The judge said Sutrisno had violated article 338 of the
Criminal Code.

Statements made by witnesses, as well as material evidence and
the doctor's autopsy report strengthened the judge's verdict that
the defendant had committed the murder, which occurred in Kampung
Bahari, North Jakarta.

"Therefore, I decide to sentence Sutrisno, alias Enok, to nine
years in prison," Siregar said.

Earlier the prosecutors had demanded that the defendant be
sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Both the defendant and the prosecutor accepted the judge's
decision.(29)
