Nine Thieves in Cilegon Arrested, Proceeds from Motorcycle Sales Used to Buy Meth

Police have detained nine perpetrators of motor vehicle theft in Cilegon, Banten. The suspects’ motives for stealing motorcycles included financing the purchase of crystal methamphetamine.

The nine individuals, identified by their initials BS, AS, S, DH, H, T, AS, MP, K, and J, were apprehended at different locations and times between January and June. They belong to several different rings, with thefts carried out in public car parks and residential homes.

Cilegon Police Criminal Investigation Unit Chief, AKP Yoga Tama, stated, “The motive for some suspects, BS and AS, was that they used the money from the theft to buy crystal meth. The other suspects used it to meet everyday living expenses.”

Police confiscated nine motorcycle units from the suspects. Other evidence includes a letter T-shaped key commonly used by the perpetrators to steal motorcycles.

“There are nine pieces of evidence that are ongoing cases, which have been ongoing since January until today. The current ones are several ongoing cases,” he said.

One motorcycle was returned to its owner after police successfully identified the stolen unit and matched it to a loss report. However, the owners of several other motorcycles held as evidence remain unknown.

“Several pieces of evidence have not yet been identified by their owners, so if anyone feels they have lost a motorcycle, they can come to the police station,” he concluded.
