Nine Prosecutors to Oversee Taufik Hidayat Case Through Trial, Prepare Layered Charges

The West Java High Prosecutor’s Office has formed a special team of nine prosecutors to handle the case of alleged false imprisonment and assault against a 29-year-old woman, identified as YTR, with Taufik Hidayat (30) named as the suspect. Head of Legal Information at the West Java High Prosecutor’s Office, Nur Sricahyawijaya, stated in Bandung on Tuesday that the team was established after the office received a Notice of Commencement of Investigation from the West Java Police’s Directorate of General Criminal Investigation. ‘The SPDP, according to the report, is dated 15 June. The High Prosecutor’s Office immediately appointed nine prosecutors,’ Cahya said. She explained that the team of prosecutors will oversee the handling of the case from the investigation stage until the case file is declared complete and transferred to court. According to initial investigation results, the suspect allegedly committed false imprisonment and assault against the victim since 2024 across four different locations. As a result of the acts, the victim suffered severe injuries to several parts of her body and is currently still receiving intensive care at Hasan Sadikin Hospital in Bandung. For the purpose of prosecution, the prosecutors are preparing an indictment with charges under Article 466 paragraph (2) of the Criminal Code concerning grievous bodily harm, Article 451 of the Criminal Code concerning violent hostage-taking, and Article 446 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 126 paragraph (2) of the Criminal Code regarding deprivation of liberty resulting in serious injury. Meanwhile, West Java Police Chief Inspector General Rudi Setiawan said investigators are still looking into the alleged element of sexual violence by involving an obstetrics and gynaecology specialist. ‘An examination has been conducted by an obgyn doctor. However, we have not yet received the results from the obstetrics and gynaecology perspective,’ Rudi said.
