The northern coast of Jakarta is potentially facing tidal flooding in October 2_026. The potential for tidal surges is estimated to occur on 13-14 October and again between 25-31 October.

Yursid Suryanegara, Head of the Coastal Development Sub-group within the Tidal Control and Coastal Development Division of the Jakarta Water Resources Agency (SDA), stated that this potential is based on modelling results regarding land subsidence, sea-level rise, coastal elevation, and the tides of Jakarta Bay.

“The northern coast of Jakarta is potentially subject to tidal flooding on 13-14 and 25-31 October 2026,” Yursid said in a statement on Thursday (1/10/2026).

Based on this data, the Jakarta coast could experience tidal flooding with the highest tide reaching 0.64 metres above mean sea level (MSL). The peak tide is expected to occur around 15:00 WIB.

Several coastal areas are included in the zones potentially affected by tidal surges. These areas include Tanjungan, Muara Angke, Muara Baru, Pasar Ikan, Ancol Marina and JIS, Tanjung Priok and Kali Baru, as well as Marunda.

Yursid noted that the results of the tidal flood modelling are still subject to change. This may be influenced by coastal development, non-tidal factors such as sea-surface anomalies, high waves caused by wind, and the mitigation efforts undertaken by the government.

To anticipate the potential tidal flooding, the Jakarta Water Resources Agency, through the North Jakarta Water Resources Sub-agency, is implementing pump readiness, operations, and various mitigation steps. A total of 171 stationary pump units have been placed on standby across 56 locations in North Jakarta.

Additionally, mobile pumps have been prepared to reach flooding locations not served by stationary pumps. Several pump houses and floodgates in coastal areas are also on standby, including the Marina Floodgate, Kali Asin Pump/Polder, Pluit Pump House, Ancol Pump, PIK Junction Pump, Muara Angke Pump, Pasar Ikan Pump, Tanjungan Pump, and Kamal Polder Pump.

The Water Resources Agency has also mobilised the Water Resources Task Force, also known as the ‘Blue Troops’, to conduct monitoring and respond if tidal flooding occurs in Jakarta’s coastal areas.

The public is advised to remain cautious and alert to the potential for tidal flooding. Updates on tidal flood developments can be monitored via the Jakarta BPBD website, the JAKI application, or by contacting the 112 emergency service in case of an emergency.
