Nine nominated for gubernatorial seat

JAKARTA: The City Council has received nominations for nine
candidates for the next gubernatorial election, which is
scheduled on Sept. 17, council spokesman Rubingan said on Friday.

Rubingan said some "unknown" nominees had proposed themselves
while the others, including the incumbent City Governor,
Sutiyoso, and deputy governor for administrative affairs Abdul
Kahfi, were nominated by major organizations.

Sutiyoso, a former Jakarta Military Commander, was nominated
by four organizations: the Indonesian Disabled Veterans Corps,
the Tanah Abang Traders Union, the Shufiyah Women's Association
and the National Goodness Party.

Kahfi was nominated by the Social Services Institute
Association while council chairman Edy Waluyo has been nominated
by the Muzakharoh Muslim Council.

The council will officially start registering the nominees
from Monday until June 21.--JP
