Nine Hajj pilgrims from the Makassar embarkation point have died as of 23 May 2026, with eight passing away in Saudi Arabia and one in Indonesia. The data was included in an official report updated on Saturday, 23 May 2026.

Mawardi Siradj, Head of the Public Relations Subsection and Media Centre Coordinator for the Makassar Hajj Pilgrimage Processing Agency (PPIH), shared the data, stating that they are continuously monitoring pilgrims’ conditions and coordinating with local authorities to ensure proper handling of remains according to procedures.

“We extend our deepest condolences for the deceased pilgrims. All burial and mortuary processes have been carried out in accordance with applicable regulations, both in Saudi Arabia and Indonesia,” said Mawardi Siradj on Sunday, 24 May.

The eight pilgrims who died in Saudi Arabia were spread across Mecca and Medina, with causes including systemic inflammatory response, acute myocardial infarction, adult respiratory distress syndrome, cardiogenic shock, and septic shock.

Among the deceased were Nursidah Sirang Sijara (59, Gowa Regency), who died on 26 April 2026 at Al Hakim Hospital due to systemic inflammatory response; and Titotou Umar (67, Ternate, North Maluku), who passed away on 8 May 2026 at Golden Ergowan Hotel in Medina due to acute myocardial infarction.

Caming Sade Sakka (74, Bone Regency) died on 18 May 2026 at Moovusat Hospital due to adult respiratory distress syndrome. Pinta Latif Abd Latif (51, Pinrang Regency) passed away on 19 May 2026 at Masjidil Haram due to cardiogenic shock.

Manah Pangewa (85, Wajo Regency) died on 19 May 2026 at Koni Makkah due to septic shock. Darmina Sekki Kulasse (48, Soppeng Regency) passed away on 21 May 2026 at King Faisal Hospital due to cardiogenic shock.

Lau Badz Mapbereng (66, Wajo Regency) died on 21 May 2026 at King Faisal Hospital due to cardiogenic shock, while SR Nasifa Curium (65, Ambon City, Maluku) passed away on 22 May 2026 at Koni Makkah.

One pilgrim died in Indonesia: Syamsuddin Puang Launang (56, Mamuju Regency, West Sulawesi), who passed away on 6 May 2026 at Wahidin Sudirohusodo Regional Hospital due to cardiac arrest.

Mawardi added that all deceased pilgrims in Saudi Arabia have been buried in the Baqi’ (Baal Madah) and Syara’i Sulhada Al Haram cemeteries.

“We urge all pilgrims to maintain their physical condition and follow the instructions of officials, especially given the extreme weather in Saudi Arabia,” he added.

The Makassar PPIH continues to update data and ensure families of pilgrims in Indonesia receive timely and transparent information. (H-2)

Another Hajj pilgrim from Brebes, Akhmad Nurokhman bin Zaeni, passed away at Saudi Germany Hospital in Medina after receiving heart treatment.
