Nine librarians receive award

Nine librarians from state and private libraries in the city were announced as the best librarians at a ceremony at City Hall yesterday.

However none of the nine, who won the titles after ousting 59 competitors, are working with the city administration, Mansyur Razak, the chairman of the organizing committee, said.

Razak said that none of the librarians who work with the city administration had formal education in librarianship.

"They only did a three to six month librarianship course," he added.

Deputy Governor for People's Welfare R.S. Museno who presented awards to the nine expressed hope in his opening speech that the city's librarians would continue to give their best service to the public although working as librarians was neither a popular nor prestigious job. (arf)
