Nine killed in Cilacap train collision
CILACAP, C. Java (JP): Nine people were killed and 13 others seriously injured in a collision involving an intercity bus with a train yesterday evening.
Singgih Abadi, chief of the Purwokerto branch of the state railway company Perumka, told The Jakarta Post that the accident occurred at an unguarded railway crossing in Kesugihan, Cilacap.
Eyewitnesses said that the accident was unavoidable as the driver of the ill-fated Jakarta-bound Sinar Jaya bus, which was crossing the railway gate at high speed, failed to notice the approaching the Serayu-4 train. The bus, dragged away for 25 meters, was heavily damaged.
All the nine victims were passengers of the bus. (wah)
