Jakarta – Nine Indonesian citizens (WNI) taking part in the Global Sumud Flotilla humanitarian mission have been released by Israel and are in the process of being repatriated home. Deputy Speaker of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Dave Laksono, welcomed the release with optimism. He said the repatriation of the nine Indonesians is tangible evidence of the strength of diplomacy, international solidarity, and commitment to humanitarian values.

“We welcome with gratitude and optimism the news that nine Indonesian citizens taking part in the Global Sumud Flotilla have been released and are being repatriated. Their return is tangible proof that diplomacy, international solidarity, and commitment to humanitarian values can open a way out of challenging situations,” Laksono said in a press statement on Friday, 22 May 2026.

He also expressed appreciation to all parties involved, particularly the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) and Indonesia’s representatives in Turkey, as well as various international solidarity networks that have accompanied the release process.

“Dedication and cross-border cooperation show that humanitarian values remain the main foundation of relations between nations,” he said.

“Furthermore, the DPR RI Commission I fully supports the diplomatic steps carried out by the government through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Laksono stressed that consistent diplomacy and international cooperation are vital to protecting Indonesian citizens abroad.”

“With this spirit of optimism, we hope the repatriation of the Indonesian citizens will remind us that the struggle for humanity cannot be silenced by violence, and that Indonesia will always stand at the forefront of defending peace, justice, and global solidarity,” he added.

It is understood that Global Peace Convoy Indonesia (GPCI) stated that all delegations of the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF), including the nine Indonesians previously detained by the Israeli military, have been released. This was conveyed by GPCI Media Coordinator Harfin Naqsyabandy, based on official confirmation from the Adalah legal team.

“All delegations of the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) and the Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC) that had previously been detained at Ktziot Prison have been released from Israeli detention facilities,” Harfin said in a statement on Thursday, 21 May 2026.
