Nine flights delayed due to volcanic ash at YIA Airport

Kulon Progo — A total of nine flights on the Soekarno-Hatta (CGK) route have been cancelled and one flight on the Palembang (PLM) route has been delayed at Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA), Kulon Progo, Special Region of Yogyakarta, due to volcanic ash activity from Mount Anak Krakatau.

The General Manager of Yogyakarta International Airport, Muhammad Thamrin, stated in Kulon Progo on Sunday that these conditions were recorded as of 10:30 WIB on Sunday.

“We urge prospective passengers to regularly check the certainty of their flight schedules. We understand that this situation may cause inconvenience. We advise service users to periodically confirm flight status with their respective airlines or contact the InJourney Airports Contact Centre at 172,” said Muhammad Thamrin.

Thamrin noted that YIA management continues to coordinate closely with various relevant parties, including airlines, the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), and AirNav Indonesia, to monitor the spread of volcanic ash.

Latest operational information is also being communicated periodically through YIA’s official social media account, @bandarayogyakarta.

Amidst this situation, management ensures that all facilities and services at Yogyakarta International Airport continue to operate optimally to guarantee the safety and comfort of all passengers.

“YIA continues to coordinate and monitor the latest developments of the situation,” he added.
